ALL IN ALL to say, look at your existing location of your door bell and picture how you need to angle your camera. IN ADDITION, if you happen to have a brick face that sticks out in front of your doorbell, having or creating a wedge to angle your doorbell is necessary. If you are not planning on re-locating wiring and trying to use the existing doorbell's location, obviously a round doorbell may not fit if the doorbell is current screwed into a door frame beside a brick face. He is not joking when you need to make your purchase based on your needs. SHAPE AND SIZE - one thing I noticed about the OP posted doorbell was the SHAPE. Be aware of that before your purchase so that salt does not take over later.ĥ. TEMPERATURE CONSIDERATIONS - as OP mentioned extreme cold weather can knock out your camera and render it a useless button. These are best used as always on and sending video back to the server to be archived.Ĥ. Video doorbells are definitely not for you. UNLIMITED INTERNET - if you do not have unlimited internet turn around. Otherwise you could have a lot of disconnects (sending you in a furious rage rating whatever you bought poorly - I have a Nest and can see the negative reviews are based on that)ģ. I almost feel they need 2mbps dedicated to itself and if your house is internet use heavy (internet gaming, video streaming, multi users logged on at same time, etc) you should buffer way above the minimum.
Most doorbells will say they need 2mbps but that is misleading. INTERNET SPEED - if your upload speed is less than 5mbps I would worry. I found mine relocated to a corner of the basement close to where the front door would be above.Ģ. The location of the transformer can be tricky especially if you have a finished basement. Older homes may not have the proper transformer because way back when the home was built doorbells were not meant to draw tons of power.

This past summer when all the evening bugs were in full effect, the motion sensor was being set off constantly. A slow moving garbage truck can sometimes set off the motion sensing. Due to the angle of my camera, only half the camera's field of vision can see the street, which is about 25-30 feet from my front door. Temperature and weather have not caused any issues in Laval, Quebec. I have the Skybell HD for over a year now.
